Broadband to Be Available in All UK Households by 2012, Says Brown

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced that by providing improved infrastructure that can support broadband distribution across all UK households, the UK economy can get a much-needed push.

Addressing key players from the telecom and technology sectors at the Digital Britain Summit held in London, Mr Brown was confident that an improved broadband infrastructure is the foundation on which the success of the British economy will stand. He said that by connecting all the British households with high-speed internet, the country would be much better equipped for facing economic challenges (click for free laptop offers).

The statements of Lord Mandelson, Trade Secretary, were backed by Mr Brown’s speech. He suggested that major government backing might be provided to all the broadband companies involved in the creation of a broadband infrastructure that will network the entire country. Lord Mandelson feels that the efforts of all the players in the communication field to lay down next generation broadband network need to be augmented by the government’s sincere support.

The Government expects the internet service providers, especially, mobile broadband suppliers, to work together to turn their dream of connecting all UK homes to broadband by 2012 into a reality. With the statements of both the Prime Minister and the Trade Secretary providing some positive indicators, the broadband industry is in an upbeat mood and with government funding on the cards, it appears that UK would fast progress on the path of economic success by embracing a digital revolution.
