Getting Raised Preflop

poker online is a game of decisions-call, raise, fold, or check, all these choices are the sum of numerous situations, players, and actions at the casino that you’ll find yourself up against. One of the most nerve-wracking decisions that you may find yourself facing is what to do when you’re faced with a big raise before the flop. A lot of what you do pre-flop is centered on the odds of someone else raising before you get to see any cards; it’s one of the reasons that your betting position is so important. Unless you’re the big blind, you won’t be able to tell for certain if you’ll be raised or not, and unless you’ve got a huge starting hand, a preflop raise can serve to make you pretty nervous.

But if you’ve actually got a big pocket pair and someone raises you before the flop, don’t give in to your first instinct and check or even fold. If you’ve got some pocket face cards like Queens, Kings, or Aces, throw another raise back at him. With the preflop raises, you’ve managed to scare out anyone who might be playing with a marginal or weak poker online hand, so you’ll have an idea as to how much the flop will help everyone else, and you’ll also be fattening the pot that you have a good chance of winning.
