In a recent announcement, Vodafone stated that it is all geared up to offer its customers a range of cloud-based services, starting with a PC backup service.
‘Cloud computing is’ being touted as the next level in computing, which will provide access to services, resources and applications online via a web browser. It will lessen the usage of software being run on personal computers, as more and more people will be using the software virtually.
The users will be able to back up data from their computer to a secured site hosted remotely by Vodafone. They can access the data and share it from any computer having an internet connection anywhere in the world, or from their own PC.
According to Huw Medcraft, director of Vodafone mobile broadband, customers use various connecting devices every day, which have different information and data stored in them. With Vodafone PC Backup, all this content can be centrally stored. The Vodafone customer can access his/her files, such as family photographs or critical work documents for businesses, anytime and anywhere via different devices and across both fixed and mobile broadband networks.
A business version of the service is about to be launched, which will help in creating an effective basic document management system. It will include user management in a multi-user system and allow an administrator to impose restrictions on information access in order to secure classified information.
The price for this service is still being worked upon, though the launch is due sometime next year.
